English 1 (Credit: 1.00)This course addresses strategies for reading comprehension, recognition of text structure in exposition and narrative, comprehension of different genres of text, the steps for writing an essay and applying the five-step writing process. The course also addresses basic skills in grammar, punctuation, word usage, spelling, vocabulary, and research and explains how to punctuate and manipulate sentences to produce more effective writing.
English 1 Common Core (Credit: 1.00)The lessons, projects and writing activities offered in this
course cover grammar, punctuation, word usage and spelling.
In addition, students will learn vocabulary, reading strategies,
and literary elements, devices and techniques. The course
also covers communication skills, such as giving speeches,
using visual aids, and communicating in the workplace, as
well as writing and revising using MLA style guidelines. Built
using responsive design principles, this HTML course is
mobile-friendly, meets accessibility requirements, and
includes expanded projects and assessments (including
performance assessments).
