Career Explorations I (Credit: 0.50)

The Career Explorations I course is designed to give seventh- and eighth-grade students an opportunity to explore various CTE subjects. Specifically, students will be able to learn about careers involving human-related services. Each unit introduces one particular field and explains its past, present, and future. The goal is to whet students' appetites for these careers. Students can then explore that career in more detail as a high school student.

Career Explorations II (Credit: 0.50)

The Career Explorations 2 course is designed to give seventh- and eighth-grade students an opportunity to explore various CTE subjects. Specifically, students will be able to learn about careers involving various technical fields from computers to agriculture.

Each unit introduces one particular field and explains its past, present, and future. The goal is to whet students' appetites for these careers. Students can then explore that career in more detail as a high school student.

Career Explorations III (Credit: 0.50)

The Career Explorations III course is designed to give seventh- and eighth-grade students an opportunity to explore various CTE subjects. Keyboarding & Applications (Credit: 0.50)

Keyboarding and Applications is a semester-long elective that teaches students keyboarding skills, technical skills, effective communication skills, and productive work habits. In this course, students will learn about proper keyboarding technique. Once students have been introduced to keyboarding skill, lessons will include daily practice of those skills. Students will gain an understanding of computer hardware, operating systems, file management, and the Internet. In addition, they will apply their keyboarding skills and create a variety of business documents, including word processing documents and electronic presentations.

Principles of Coding (Credit: 0.50)

Principles of Coding is designed to introduce middle school students to the power of coding. Computer literacy has become just as important as reading and math literacy in the 21st Century. No matter what career students select, learning even the basics of coding and computers will benefit them. Additionally, every year there is a standing demand for 120,000 people who are trained in computer science. Jobs in this industry are growing at more than two times the national average of any other field i. Throughout this course, students are not only introduced to the basics of coding, but delve deeply into the thought processes behind designing technology. Right from the start, students learn the Engineering Design Process and follow this process to create games, simulations, and even a mobile application. Students learn the connection between the core subjects of English Language Arts and Math to Computer Science. Students also examine the impact of technology from a global perspective. The content was written to be highly-engaging for the middle-school audience. Multimedia and interactive elements are built into every lesson to ensure a high-level of student engagement throughout.
