Career Interest Explorer: Build in Grades 11-12 (Credit: 0.50)Career Interest Explorer: Build in Grades 11–12 is a mini course designed to help students
transition from high school experiences to planning their next steps, whether that means
further education or entering the workforce. The course aims to build awareness and provide
planning tools for these next steps.
The course uses the Career Interest Explorer app and O*net resources to help students identify
the future education, certifications, or opportunities they will need. Through interactive lessons,
students learn how to turn their interests into goals and actions, solidifying their visions, creating
action plans, and helping them understand the importance of skills that will allow them to
communicate those plans clearly and confidently.
While the early high school course focuses on planning for high school experiences, this later
high school course emphasizes the skills needed for students' next stage of life. To support this
developmental stage, students will also learn about durable skills such as fortitude, leadership,
and communication. These skills are valued by all employers and are applicable across all career
paths.
Career Interest Explorer: Discover in Grades 6-8 (Credit: 0.50)Career Interest Explorer: Discover in Grades 6–8 is a mini course designed to help students
connect their academic learning to their interests and skill development, fostering future-
oriented thinking and meaning, especially as learning demands increase. By integrating
personal exploration with students' future goals, the course aims to empower them to take
control of their achievements.
The course includes developmentally appropriate learning and active engagement in exploring
career possibilities based on their skills and interests. It uses the Career Interest Explorer app
to help students better understand their interests and encourages them to explore various
career options through resources such as O*net. This exploration process includes targeted
skill development in setting goals and taking action to achieve goals.
Additionally, the course focuses on essential, durable skills that are valued by all employers and
applicable across all career paths. These skills include mindfulness, creativity, and developing a
growth mindset , which support exploration and innovative thinking.
Career Interest Explorer: Plan in Grades 9-10 (Credit: 0.50)Career Interest Explorer: Plan in Grades 9–10 is a mini course designed to help students plan
their high school academic journeys by identifying and maximizing opportunities that clarify
their interests and prepare them for targeted career exploration. It combines the Career
Interest Explorer app with interactive lessons that reveal how their interests can be
transformed into goals and actions, leading to focused experiences and skill building in their
chosen career paths.
Unlike the more open-ended career exploration that students did in middle school, this early
high school course guides students toward creating specific career paths. These paths enable
students to intentionally engage in experiences that refine their goals and interests into
actionable course choices and activities.
Additionally, the course emphasizes essential, durable skills that are valued by all employers and
applicable across all career paths. These skills include critical thinking, metacognition, and
collaboration, which are crucial for personal decision-making.
Certified Medical Assistant A (Credit: 0.50)Certified Medical Assistant, Semester A, is designed to help you develop essential skills for a
career as a certified medical assistant. You will learn how to conduct patient intake, accurately
document care, and perform screenings. You will explore safety protocols, infection control,
and emergency response procedures. You will gain a thorough understanding of anatomy,
physiology, and medical procedures, including patient preparation, specimen collection, and
laboratory testing. Additionally, you will study pharmacology, medication administration, and
immunization guidelines. Through interactive lessons, discussions, and hands-on activities, you
will build the knowledge and skills needed for effective patient care and clinical support.
This course consists of 15 lessons organized into four units, four Unit Activities, and four
Discussions. Additionally, there is one Course Activity and one Course Project that you will work
on throughout the course. Each lesson contains one or more Lesson Activities. You will grade
your work in the Lesson Activities by comparing it to sample responses. You will submit the
Unit Activities, Course Activity, and Course Project to your teacher for grading.
Certified Medical Assistant B (Credit: 0.50)Certified Medical Assistant, Semester B, is the second part of a two-semester course that builds
on foundational knowledge from Semester A. This course begins with an in-depth study of legal
and ethical responsibilities in health care settings. You will explore the importance of following
professional codes of conduct and learn how health care laws protect patient confidentiality,
privacy, and data security. You will apply both federal and state regulations to address common
legal issues in clinical practice.
The course also focuses on effective communication, emphasizing how to recognize and
respond to cultural and language barriers with empathy and professionalism. You will clarify
your roles, responsibilities, and scope of practice as a certified medical assistant. Additionally,
you will gain hands-on experience applying accurate coding practices for procedures,
diagnoses, insurance verification, and claims processing. You will explore various insurance
types and understand their coverage and billing requirements. Finally, the course will guide you
in managing administrative tasks, including scheduling appointments, registering patients, and
maintaining electronic health records securely and efficiently.
This course consists of 13 lessons organized into four units, four Unit Activities, and four
Discussions. Additionally, there is one Course Activity and one Course Project. Each lesson
