Business and Information Technology, Semester A, is the first part of a two-semester course. In this course, you will learn about business, marketing, product design, careers, and communication. You will analyze the basic concepts of entrepreneurship and different types of business ownership. You will also learn how to create effective personal and business correspondence. You will identify the basic concepts of marketing and marketing strategies to compete in the marketplace. You will develop promotional materials for a product or service using digital graphics. You will create a personal profile by evaluating your personal values, interests, and aptitudes. You will also develop a career plan. Finally, you will create an electronic portfolio and learn how to conduct a job search in a specific area of interest.

Creative Writing: Unleashing the Core of Your Imagination (Credit: 0.50)

Writing can change the world. Think about the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, and Lincoln’s 2nd In Augural Address. How have these writings shaped our country and the future? While you learn how to unleash the core of your imagination to develop your own creative writing, you’ll also explore creative writing through foundational literary works from the 18th to 20th century of Colonialism to American Gothic to Modernism, and everything in between, while evaluating original writings and their interpretations.

Gothic Literature: Monster Stories (Credit: 0.50)

It was a dark and stormy night, and the vampires, ghouls, and undead were on the prowl… Gothic Literature is riddled with the spooky, but did you know that this genre is so much more than a scary form of entertainment? In Gothic Literature, you’ll learn about how some of the world’s greatest authors from the 19th century through today used Gothic elements to tackle issues that needed serious attention: the class system, gender norms, racism, social injustice, and more! Grab your monster gear and explore why Gothic literature has retained its appeal even with today’s audiences.

Graphic Design and Illustration A (Credit: 0.50)

This one-semester course is intended as a practical, hands-on guide to help you understand graphic design concepts, graphic image creation, and image manipulation. This course has 14 lessons organized into 4 units, plus 4 Unit Activities. Each lesson contains one or more Lesson Activities. This course covers careers you can pursue in graphic design. It also covers training and skills required for a graphic designer. In addition, this course describes how to create images using color and typography and how to manipulate images. It also guides you how to create images using design elements and principles. Finally, this course covers copyright laws and ethics related to the use of graphic design.

Graphic Design and Illustration B (Credit: 0.50)

This course will help students develop an understanding of the industry with a focus on topics such as history of graphic design, types of digital images, graphic design tools, storing and manipulating images, design elements and principles, copyright laws, and printing images. The course is based on Career Technical Education (CTE) standards designed to help students develop technical knowledge and skills needed for success in the graphic design industry.

Mythology and Folklore: Legendary Tales (Credit: 0.50)

Since the beginning of time, people have gathered around fires to tell stories of angry gods, harrowing journeys, cunning animals, horrible beasts, and the mighty heroes who vanquished them. Mythology and folklore have provided a way for these colorful stories to spring to life for thousands of years and helped humans make sense of the world. Explore how these compelling tales continue to shape society even today.

Reading and Writing for Purpose (Credit: 0.50)

This course introduces useful, real-world information by having students learn to read legal, insurance, employment, and vehicle related documents. Furthermore, students will explore media bias, trends in journalism, word structures, and research strategies. To entrench real-world applications, students will learn how to critically read, identify good sources of information, and create an outline, making this course an asset to building life and study skills.

Sports and Entertainment Marketing 1a: Introduction (Credit: 0.50)

The bright lights. The roaring crowds. The chants and cheers and applause. If you are drawn to the electricity of large events and the challenge of making events successful, a career in sports and entertainment marketing may be for you! In this course, you will trace the development of these industries, dissect their dual nature, and discover what it takes to pitch, promote, and deliver on these services. You ‘ll also explore the necessary steps to chart your own career path from among the professional roles that these industries need to operate. Let’s get off the sidelines and hop into the primetime of the sporting and entertainment worlds!

The Lord of the Rings: An Exploration of the Films and Their Literary Influences (Credit: 0.50)

The Lord of the Rings is one of the most popular stories in the modern world. In this course, you will study the movie versions of J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel and learn about the process of converting literature to film. You will explore fantasy literature as a genre and critique the three Lord of the Rings films.
