Business English is designed to strengthen students’ ability to read and write in the workplace. Writing for business purposes is a main focus of the course. Students will learn how to communicate effectively through email and instant messaging, as well as format specific types of business messages and workplace documents. The role of digital media, visuals, and graphics in workplace communication will be explored. The importance of professionalism, ethics, and other positive skills are also emphasized in the course. Additionally, guidance is provided to help students through the process of searching, applying, and interviewing for a job.

The instruction covers many types of writing: creative, descriptive, expository, narrative, and persuasive. In English 9A, you will read and analyze literature in different genres as well as practice skills related to good study habits. You will sharpen your writing skills as you evaluate literary works with regard to literary technique, form, and theme.

English 9 B - Semester 2 (Credit: 0.50)

English is the study of the creation and analysis of literature written in the English language. In English 9B, you will study a variety of techniques to improve your reading comprehension and writing skills. The instruction covers many types of writing: creative, descriptive, expository, narrative, and persuasive. In English 9B, you will read and analyze Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet, as well as read speeches and essays to evaluate their arguments. You will write evaluations of literary works with regard to literary techniques, form, and theme.

You will then apply that learning to your own writing, drawing on a wide range of authorial techniques to support your own development as an author and thinker. In Ohio English Language Arts I, Semester A, you will analyze techniques in poetry, fiction, and nonfiction texts to analyze thematic connections and inform your own writing and in-class discussions.

Ohio English Language Arts I B (Credit: 0.50)
